I've just started teaching myself Russian (loving it by the way) and I'll eventually want to get my hands on a Russian typewriter. I just looked over at eBay and the prices were horrendously high. Any tips on where to find one at a reasonable price?
I like this poem/art piece by the way, it reminds me of some of Vaclav Havel's early stuff. He has several typewritten pieces similar to this where he plays around with words and their structure to send a message. You should look at some of his stuff if you have never done so.
The only place I'd say you could be guaranteed to find a Russian typewriter cheaply is some market in the former USSR…I bought my Moskva 8M in a market in Tbilisi (I do intensely miss Tbilisi from time to time). I won the Erika 120 I used for this on shopgoodwill last year for not much over $20 plus shipping. If you can actually find a Russian typewriter in the US on a proper auction with a low starting bid, chances are it will sell inexpensively.
