Adventure Typewriter Search + Mystery Typewriter (part 2)

You can find out the exact details of the mystery typewriter if you know what to look for. ;)

Colon Mountain: Notice how the fields and houses continue right up it...haha

Looks like that Hammond probably wasn't worth over $300. Such price inflation! It was beside a $600 Oliver though...and across from a caseless $150 Corona 3.

200th Philosophothought post, begun March 2011, sent from our new Smith-Corona Skyriter and Royal Safari.

  1. Wow! Your Royal Safari is such an enviable find!! I LOVE the script too! The case of the mystery typewriter is so familiar! I own a similar one, though I cannot recall which typewriter belongs in it as I display my typer sans case.

I am guessing perhaps an Olive Remington 5 with colored keys? My next guess would be a Smith Corona!

    Warmest Regards,
    Claudia Tan

    1. I passed quite a few Safaris up and I'm glad because this was waiting for me!

  2. Or maybe a Royal QDL or Olympia SM? Hmmm...

    1. I say in the typecast that it's an "L C Smith & Corona", basically meaning it's either a Corona or Smith-Corona though the name at that point doesn't mean much. XD

There's something about the case that indicates what is special about the typewriter inside.

  3. Oh!! Oops, I didn't read the typecast carefully enough!! A special edition perhaps? Chrome/ghost typewriter?!

Sorry if I'm way off, I'm not good at this at all! Hee hee...

  4. Ah...the lower case F and he upper case B of that Royal are absolutely delicious. It's been a while since I've been so taken with a script typeface.

    Congrats on the find!

    1. I'll be uploading a full type sample to the Typewriter Database in a day or two. :)

I agree. When I first saw it on a Montgomery Ward I was instantly captivated, and I'm not a big script fan either.

  5. Hmm, odd color for a SC case (more Royal?). The case shape makes me think a Speedline. One clasp, a plastic molded handle and that color looks '49 to me; a late one then. Is it a late oddball Speedine, odd color with plastic keytops?
    A riddle! :)

    1. Definitely a Speedline! But not a late transition one.

I do have one of those last Speedlines with plastic keytops, and its case resembles the Super 5 series cases more, with the tweed-like covering.

    2. Now this IS a riddle. The case is the hint, so it's not an arabic or other exotic machine. Given the almost greenish hue of the normally black case; is it one built during the war for government use??

      Most puzzling :)

  6. More reasons to like my favorite state in the Union: typewriters. I knew immediately when I saw the script it was a Royal Spencerian Script machine. That typeface is my favorite script. I cannot tell from the case. Royal Companion in a case nearly like that. Green case kind of reminds me of the Army, a Mill perhaps?

    1. Montana definitely has been one of my favourites as well, ever since first visiting! Although it's too hot in the summer for me.

Good typeface identification! I was also confident it was Spencerian when I glanced at the typeslugs in the store.

  7. That really is a wonderful typeface. Good find.

  8. My only Safari is a Spencerian script also. One of the better typefaces.
    Is it a Sterling?
