  1. It's a pretty one too! (:
So now you're buying machines just because of the color of the nameplate? oh, man - you've got it bad :D

    1. I had a grey/blue one but it was an Irene with a black logo!

…but yes, I do. But at the same time, without this I wouldn't have realized the truth. ;)

  2. The Erika 41 is an incredible machine--it's like your new one, but with a wide carriage. What does your case look like? Mine has a red interior! Also, the Irene that I bought from you has turned out to be one of the best lightweight/medium typewriter ever!

    1. Mine is a grey case inside and out. They introduced the black with red lining case around 1973.

  3. I find it often comes down to how well the machine has been cleaned. And when I mean cleaned, I mean the segment has been completely cleared out of tiny detritus that we can't see and usually just brush out. I took 4 goes at cleaning my Olivetti L22 - the first three times I was certain that the make of the machine just had a bad touch. On the 4th and extensive blasting of the segment, I got the last of the tiny goop clear. It can't have been much, but the machine seem to spring to life after that.

    1. The culprit bad Erika was surprisingly clean and hadn't seen much use at all, but as I don't own it any more I couldn't find out if that might be the case.
