Typewriter Trials / Royal Diana

1959 Royal Diana DTP 86766

It really is a beautiful typewriter, if painted in a dull way, and it's so quiet and smooth--you want it to type like the best. But it doesn't.

I forgot I did bring up the whole air force deployment thing back when he left. The context helps.

  1. Good choice on the Fuji, they are a good value and you're right about the controls, I've borrowed a relative's cannon at the moment and I can't figure out how to get it to do half of what I want.

    1. I can imagine the first few weeks of using this is going to be me blundering my way about with it, and then I will finally get really comfortable and hopefully be making amazing pictures!

  2. Nice typewriter. I do not like to get rid of any of my machines that do not work or are partial machines for the reason of parts. I have limited space, but the garage is not yet piled to the ceiling. I may have a foot or tow to go yet.

Rating typewriters can be a challenge since, if you are like me, some of my favorites are the oldest and thus may lack the nice things like a tabulator or card guide and sometimes touch control. I find it hard to find better typers than my old ancient Underwoods. Then yesterday I got an Royal HH. It is not even cleaned yet, but at first touch I found a WOW factor of superb touch and action. It may beat the Underwoods.

    1. I, on the other hand, would get rid of any non-working typewriter I can't use for parts at the immediate time if I didn't force myself to just hide them away somewhere. They really are sad to have around, though. Not being able to do what they're supposed to.

  3. Love this typewriter rating series, and I agree that the "Top-middle-bottom" method will probably be more accurate given the subjective nature of the tested performance. Congrats on the new camera too! I'm having tons of fun learning how to work mine - looking forward to the pics you'll be taking. (:

    1. Yes, actually, it is for sale. I don't remember what problems I mentioned in the text above but I have fixed them so it works properly now. :) You will find more information here: http://phlsphthght.blogspot.com/2014/02/10-typewriters-for-sale-or-trade.html and my email address is in the first paragraph.
