1932 Remie Scout S21913

Does anybody know why there is a period/full stop after Model? Or why they said "Model" at all? Is it technically a "Remington Remie Scout Model."? If it is, that is probably the most weirdly formatted name for a typewriter.

  1. That hot glue trick is clever.

The "Remie Scout Model." always struck me as a curious, almost Victorian affectation. One of those quirks of typewriter history!

    1. At first it was smearing the ink but apparently it just needed a few days to get really solid. It makes sense, but I never thought hot glue only reached something like 90% hardness in the few minutes after it cools.

  2. I found some rubber grommets at Ace Hardware that are pretty good replacement for the Remmie Scout feets:

    1. I think I've gone long enough with my makeshift rubber bit fixes (metal plates, cardboard, sticky foam) and I should actually buy some grommets. I'm assuming they will also work in a Portable 2--mine needs new feet as well.

  3. Advertisers, it seems, had no idea what to make of the name. It's sometimes the "Remie" Scout. Other times it's the "Remi-Scout." Still other times it's the Remie "Scout" Model. I don't think they knew which word to emphasize.

How awkward it must have been for dealers to show customers the Remie Scout Model. model.

    Nice typecast. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Before the days of thorough brand identity, and model identity, too it seems.

It had to have been, at least a little. XD

  4. Nice work. I do find these a very appealing machine.
i've been making my own rubber feet for a bit, and I'm about to try something that may allow for the construction of more sophisticated feet in the near future. But more on that when I'm done.

  5. Nice typewriter. I like the hot glue trick and the red felt make the typewriter look really good.

  6. I normally dislike red. Like really DISLIKE. But I do like this! Very clever.

    1. I'm not a huge fan of it myself, but it was the only color I had on hand and red always goes well with black.

I did it years ago with my Royal Fleetwood where it matches some of the accent pieces using some of the exact same felt. http://typewriterdatabase.com/197x-royal-silverseiko-fleetwood.1616.typewriter
