Noodler's flex pen

Does my writing look like it's running downwards to you? I checked, in the scan the lines are perfectly horizontal. I think it's the way I hold my hand to get the right angle for the flex. Proper Spencerian pens have angled nibs so you don't need to do that.

This, the cheapest Noodler's flex pen, is finicky, has design flaws, and smells weird due to the plastic used, but with deliberation you can get results worth many times the cost of the pen, which only costs as much as an average bottle of ink.

  1. Great handwriting again, Nick. I may use it as a template to teach myself Spencerian. That's asking for trouble, isn't it?
I saw the Noodler's pens not so long ago and considered getting one, but I wasn't sure of the type of nib and was in too much a hurry to ask the sales guy. Looks like I'll have to go back.
And if you want a nib with flex, hunt around for something vintage with a gold nib. Decades of being broken in by somebody else.

    1. I hear the comment on my handwriting so often that I hardly notice when people compliment it. XD I will say "thank you" this time, though. I really think you oughtn't use my writing as a template, but you're free to do the destruction you wish. :p

For the $14 it's worth it. You'll be frustrated at times, but they're lots of fun.

I'm hesitant about buying a gold flex nib online and I haven't had any luck finding fountain pens locally. :/

    2. Actually, Nick, a Noodler's fountain pen is gonna cost me $25 AUD at the store where I saw it. Perhaps, on a subconscious level, that was the reason why I didn't buy it. Regarding your handwriting, believe me when I tell you that, having returned to study in the last 18 months, I have been witness to some dreadful handwriting in my classroom.

  2. Excellent penmanship! I can never hope to equal it, but I may have to try since I just found 30 nibs and another 5 fountain pens today at the same Goodwill that yielded the Pelikan 4001 ink yesterday! :D

I very much like the green ink you're using too (:

    1. Tsk, that Goodwill of yours. I should tour the thrifts around here again some time soon. I haven't been doing so in a while.

Green ink for a green pen.

  3. Great handwriting! I've been looking at a Noodler's flex pen for quite a while. Spencerian is my favorite script although I cannot do it nor do I have a typewriter with it. I may get one, but I can guarantee mine will not write as nice as yours writes. I have a Waterman Flex that I write with sometimes. I need to practice writing neatly and then venture out into fancier writing.

    1. I've never heard of a typewriter that could type Spencerian. XD

A Waterman flex is much nicer than this pen. If you've got that, you probably don't need anything cheaper.

  4. Lovely inking! Are you left or right handed?

    1. Right handed. The weird angle is not present when I'm writing normally, just with flex. XD

  5. A very nice penmanship indeed - enhanced beautifully by the flex pen.
