Corona Four / Obsolete Communication Forms

1925 Corona Four H608372

When mentioning the pinnacle of 1930s portable typewriter designs, I am not including all European designs since I've only had the chance to use an Olympia. I understand that Triumph or Continental might be the winner.

Typed on my new Corona Four

  1. Congratulations on the Corona 4. That is one fine looking typewriter.

  2. That one cleaned up nicely. For me, their aesthetics score outstrips functionality. I have four or so and they all have some issue, mostly to do with ribbon advance and I agree wholeheartedly that the evolution to the flat top Floating Shift design delivered a typewriter complete in every way. Very similar feel but more efficient - as you would expect.

    1. Some typewriters are just destined to be had and admired for their looks, especially when they're fun to type with. They exist separately from the typewriters you love to work with and write lots of words on. Sometimes the two collide rather neatly. :)

Comparing my flattop with this, it's incredible the advance that was made. Probably one of the greatest steps in a line of portable typewriters.

  4. Damn that typecast of yours! ;) I was quite undecided if I really want one now - I always fancied Four rather than 3. An ebay auction was just coming to an end and I spotted this post reading through your blog backwards just in time - so I bid, I won, I paid and now I sit and wait for it to be delivered... some day next week though. :)

    1. Hopefully it arrives safe and in working condition. :)

And the wait, that week+ is pretty excruciating at times. But buying from eBay.de is worse because DHL takes up to a month some times!

    2. Still waiting for Four. Though today a typewriter which I bought off German ebay finally arrived. It took just a week so I would say a pretty good result - some services within the UK take that long (or sometimes longer)...
