1936 Klein-Urania 138377 |
Sometimes you just have to take a chance and expect the good with the bad. One thing I have gotten from sad eBay experiences are the odd metal spool! (Usually just one, along with a plastic) So I have two full sets of nice glossy metal DIN spools, for my Urania and my Triumph.
Typed on my new Klein-Urania
Looks quietly spectacular! The URANIA wordmark on the front is very stylish.
ReplyDelete(Ebay you say, eh...)
Even worse when you get two plastic spools! Lovely typewriter. :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems like most of the typewriters on German eBay have at least one metal spool, although some of them have matte metal and that looks as bad as plastic when exposed like on this. Thanks. :)
DeleteCongratulations on the fine typewriter.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when eBay gambles work out - that must have been a joyful surprise indeed when you opened the corroded case to reveal the lovely shiny machine. I have a similar gamble due to arrive today - gamble because of very blurry photos, thus won with a low bid. Looks to be an S-C flat top, which would be a new addition. Great score on the Urania, Nick, and it looks to type very well!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that the pictures didn't even really show the condition, because they weren't blurry or really small, I could see a fair amount of detail! I guess it was just a pleasant accident.
DeleteThe pictures are so blurry you aren't quite 100% sure what typewriter it is? ;D
What a cute German depression portable! MUST... ADD... TO... LIST... Irresistible!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You take fantastic photos! This really is an interesting model.
ReplyDeleteThe lighting was amazing that morning (sunny bit with fairly dense fog). A photograph is only as good as it's lighting and subject. :)
DeleteI thought that the predecessor, Urania Piccola, was a rather large almost semi-standard machine but now that I know this is very similar, I see it's actually quite small.
Nick how would you compare it with Erikas of that time. I am talking about typing feel. Thanks
ReplyDeleteIn typing feel, Erikas beat it easily.
DeleteSo in choice between Erika S and Urania Klein i should go for Erika. I know that Erika are better machines but i kinda like the way this Urania looks. Its inferior to Erika but how does it type. Can you type for long and enjoy it? Thanks Nick
ReplyDeleteThe return lever is different from what you'd usually find on a typewriter, so if you're used to other typewriters, that will take some getting used to. I can type for extended periods with it, but I don't really choose to. I have it mainly just because it looks cool, and it does work fine to type on. It just wouldn't be my first choice. (Or my second or third)
