Resoundingly Royal, Quite Quiet, Definitely De Luxe

1948 Royal Quiet De Luxe A-1593315

Still trying to figure out how to take the best pictures possible with my camera. It really struggles in indoor light situations. I think I've gotten one step closer to good photos, and the table/board background looks better than the blanket.

Also, if you haven't heard of Rob Bowker's excellent post card idea yet, check out his post on Typewriter Heaven.

Thoughts (some not mine) applied to paper via (sometimes by) my new Royal Quiet De Luxe
(Who also very naughtily and against my will created the title of this typecast)

  1. A very elegant machine, Nick, and your photography does it justice.

    1. Thanks! It's taken quite a lot of effort to make them look that good but it's worth it.

  2. Very nice pics of a great machine. One just like this one was my first typewriter and still a cornerstone of my collection. I think the more you type on it, the more you'll come to love at least this particular model of Royals. (:

    1. I gave my sister a Royal Arrow in the previous style, http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uO8eGbzgoIU/TZ4LYicsEwI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/XZJ5YG1_NPE/s1600/Royal+Arrow.JPG and I really did like it. I miss it quite a lot now, and this has a very similar feel.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about them! I just am really weird with Royals. It is beyond description.

    2. I do also very much like the little round-top earlier Royals, but I gave away the one I found pretty quickly too. Don't really know why, I'm just happiest with the squarer ones ('48/'49 - I have one of each), and thought the person I gave it to would like it a lot more.

    3. I gave it to her because it was her favourite out my collection when I moved out, and it was without the case. I miss it, but it definitely was a great thing to give her as a memory of me as we are great friends.

  3. Very nice typewriter. It looks new. Although I have not added one to my collection yet; it is one of my favorites. I wish I could find a nice one cheaply.

    1. Considering how these were designed to be used and to be used well, it's amazing how often we do find them in nice shape. This has a little issue with the carriage at the very end of the line, just a little bending of a part ought to fix it right up.

Definitely my recommended Royal, if you had to pick of the post-war ones!

  4. Nice rig. My QDL's are all from about 53.
