1962 Olympia SM7 2009885 |
The only flaw with this is one broken/missing plastic card holder. I was lucky to get it at a reasonable price (for a pink typewriter on ebay) because after the original auction ended with no bidders, I gave the seller a lower offer which they accepted.
Sent from my new pink Olympia SM7
Interesting, I don't think I've seen one lacking the green keys/knobs. are all the factory pink ones like that?
ReplyDeleteYes, any SM7 that isn't mainly white, from the factory, has all white keys and knobs.
DeleteSchön, und schöne Photos!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Nick. I've managed to collect Remingtons, Smiths-Coronas and SCMs, an Underwood, a Brother and a couple of Olivettis. Still hoping to come across an Olympia SM.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very nice typewriter. The shape of the return lever is interesting. I wonder is it unique to that model?
ReplyDeleteThe SM8 and SM9 also have the same return lever style.
DeleteYes, they look like a cut-throat razor. Regarding the plastic card holder, I was thinking if you cut out a piece of CD case and put it on top of a metal railing ( of similar diameter to the platen) on a very hot and sunny day, would it curve and mold to the similar curvature of the existing card holder? You can tell I have too much time on my hands, but I once left a CD case on the dashboard of my car on a very hot day and it bubbled up in a few hours. Perhaps a piece of bathroom towel railing in a low heat oven might do the trick.
DeleteRemember how I said I have too much time on my hands?
Either way, it's a very nice SM7 you got yourself there, Nick.
Thankfully with the wire piece closest the typing point, I don't need anything to replace the card holder on this, but that is an excellent idea that I'll use on my Everest Mod. 90, which has nothing to press the paper against the platen at the printing point because the entire piece is plastic and it's completely missing. I've been thinking about how to fabricate one and this is exactly what I need to do!
DeleteVery nice color scheme! And once again, amazing pictures.
