I send slightly different instructions depending on specific traits of the typewriter, like the design of the case or whether it has exposed ribbon spools or not.
For example, if it has an old-style baseboard screwed to the typewriter, I instruct them to wrap around the typewriter and baseboard with plastic wrap. If it has a soft case, I tell them to wrap around the typewriter with bubble wrap before closing the case. And if it's a more modern hard case with a rim around the edge, I say to pad around the typewriter with bubble wrap before closing the lid.
Then with all of them I recommend wrapping around the closed case with plastic wrap or bubble wrap and putting it in a sturdy box with about 3 inches of space around all sides, top, and bottom and to fill the void tightly with packing material. I've never had any damage to a typewriter packed to follow those instructions.
It is a lovely typeface! What's it called? I've never had a large typeface machine, except maybe my 1955 Adler Universal that has a medium large typeface that I think is called "Congress" - I love it, and it works well with the double spaced lettering option. Can't wait for the calendars.
Lovely typeface!
ReplyDeleteWould you mind sharing the specific packing directions you send to ebay sellers?
