1919 L C Smith No 8 Video

click to play
I've long since sold this L C Smith, but I made this video about two years ago to remember it by using all the wonderful video skills I learnt in my videojournalism class. This is the first time I've actually shown it.

In other news, I'm starting work on a Centralised Typewriter Repair Resource (the fancy name which I have given it for now that will likely be scrapped for something very, very catchy) which can be seen on Welcome to the Typosphere.

  1. Nice typing style. Interesting writing there. Comfortable machine to use?

There's a bit of popping on the video, which was probably post processing of the audio by the camera device you used. But other than that, nice demonstration.

    1. Watching this again I was rather captivated by my typing style. It's rather weird looking when you mute the volume and focus on the hand movements only! It's old enough that my typing may have changed. I'll have to make another one like this soon. I recall that it was a quirky machine, not too good for extended use for one well-used much later machines.

I don't remember a whole lot about the Kodak I used. It was just difficult and cheap all 'round. XD I took some really hit and miss photos with it on this very blog back around winter '11-'12.

  2. You should make more vids. The only typewriter vids with different angles. You put a lot of work into everything you do, and it shows. Good for you!

  3. Great video. As J. Lee said, the varying camera angles add to the interest. I also like the use of extreme closeups. You've given me some ideas and inspiration for videos of my own. BTW, nice H3K in the background!

  4. P.S. Is that a horsehair felt pad? I was lucky to receive one of those as an extra with an eBay purchase a while ago, and its better than any of the other pads I've acquired.

    1. Doesn't look like horsehair, just like ordinary thick felt. It's the nicest typewriter pad I've ever owned and came with a $5 SCM, though I think the pad is worth more than the typewriter!

  5. What speed with two fingers, you'd beat me in a competition. Good luck with ideas for the CTRR. I added a couple of thoughts to the thread.
