1941 Corona Comet De Luxe 1N 12342 |
Notice that the recessed side panel on the flattops is absent on this model. As much as I adore the glossy finish of most flattops, I think this is a very beautiful machine. the stripes are perfectly placed, and the Comet decal is spectacular! I am basing my review on the assumption that this was an economy model made in the Speedline era. If that is the case, it certainly is an excellent machine given its price position.
Flying through outer space on my Corona Comet De Luxe
Flat key tops or not, that is one fantastic looking typewriter.
ReplyDeleteGreat find! I love the look of machines from this period - black paint, glass keys, chrome accents. And yes, the Comet decal is a very nice touch! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThis model is definitely one of the underappreciated beautiful machines!
DeleteWell, that is something I didn't expect to see. Such a great find! I've never heard or seen one of these before. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'd only discovered the model myself earlier this year and was quite smitten. This was the first nice one that came up on eBay. I was the only bidder. :D
DeleteWow! Factory fresh indeed. The keytops look good - maybe they thought they were just a little more modern looking at the time. Both my basket shift Coronas have "Floating Shift" designated keys but the absence of a paper bail almost belies the De Luxe designation. My guess is that they were produced at probably not much of a different price but sold with a greater price differential simply to broaden their range and gain market share. Who knows?
ReplyDeleteInteresting! An underappreciated and under-researched typewriter.
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving the Comet De Luxe the spotlight, I wouldn't have noticed that it is a handsome machine in its own right. And yours is in fine condition indeed. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteOh, aren't these great? I have one that was bought secondhand by my father in the early 60s (I think 1941 was the only year these were made). It survived many moves and 4 grubby children playing with it and still looks good.
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving me that year! It seems a logical. :)
