Well... you've said it already. It's the soul! Although I mostly feel attracted to the pre-WWII German models, I couldn't agree more with you. HEAR HEAR!
I have found myself being quite attracted to german machines of late myself. Pre war mostly (Spider, I have been focusing a lot on that as well of late) and post war models.
Great to see you have been getting so much joy out of machines from one country.
I'll have to agree with you there. Part of why I have more later East German ones is just down to price and how it's easy to get them cheaply. XD I suppose this post could be an adding on to the obvious that pre-war German typewriters are some of the most fantastic ones out there.

ReplyDeleteAh, but why are their souls different?

DeleteI agree, it's a fascinating group of machines. And yes, they have souls.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what it says about me that I prefer late 40's Royals, Brother JP-1's and Selectric 721's? :D
ReplyDeleteIt says that each person is unique and no typewriter collector prefers exactly the same typewriters!
