Combining all the advantages

1959 Groma Combina 1021098

just like with the earlier Gromas, the return lever moves depending on the linespace setting

An extensive comparison showing the many differences between first
and second generation Combinas is scheduled for this week.

  1. Great report, looking forward to more. I got a Combina about a year ago but have not written about it. It's a good and interesting typewriter, I'd say.

    1. Thanks, I'm trying to make this about as comprehensive as I can. Just looking at ebay listing photos it's very difficult to notice all the variations between Combinas. I was surprised to find out that there are dozens of differences between my two, and I think the later version is decidedly better.

    1. It is indeed. There's an air of distinction and importance about it.

  3. Me too. A very readable typeface on this one and I like that rounded left-hand platen knob.

    1. One of my favorite typefaces, I also have one on my ivory Torpedo. And also, one of my favorite platen knobs!

  4. Heavily used you say? It has cleaned up nicely, almost looks like new on these pictures. Thought for a moment it came straight out the box!

    1. Pictures can be so deceptive! It's mostly down to small details. There's corrosion spots on the metal and little defects in the paint and a few little plastic pieces broken off. Although this one isn't as used as the 1957 one.
