Rheinmetall return

1939 Rheinmetall Portable 232114

*For those who don't know, DHL charges for international shipping one a flat rate for any package between 5-10kg, and another rate for 10-20kg packages. This happened to be 11kg, and therefore cost 10€ more.

The little indicator point on the ribbon color selector is missing on mine, for some reason. It doesn't negatively affect the function, other than not indicating what is currently selected.

As for what we did in some of the 10 days of absence, that will be a story for another time.

"Typewriter" in 44 languages other than English

Sent from: Soemtron KsT (German), Torpedo 18a (Dutch), Hermes Rocket (Russian),

Underwood Standard Portable (Croatian), and Everest Mod 90 (Brazilian Portuguese).

These are all the languages in google translate that I have a typewriter that can type, or else I can very closely approximate. I actually didn't mean to leave English out, but I forgot it. XD Here is the text again, fresh from google translate (showing what the languages are) in case if I made any errors in the typing.

"teeb" in Somali seems to just mean "type", so maybe that's not quite correct.

Soemtron and the final KsT

1962 Soemtron KsT 631011

Sent from my new Soemtron KsT

Soemtron was later incorporated into Robotron, but managed to survive for a while as a company in the 1990s after the fall of the DDR. Below is another Soemtron typewriter, a massive desktop model that is about as brutalist as you can get. But notice, the same color scheme (well, imagine it's cleaned up) as my Soemtron KsT! It is believed that this was the only color scheme used on Soemtron typewriters.

History of Soemtron at soemtron.org (unfortunately nothing on typewriters)
